To meet the needs of Catholics living in Devonshire and Smith’s, land was donated to build a chapel, which was blessed in February 1948 and named the Wayside Chapel. Over time it became too small for the needs of the people in the area and the parish. In 1964, the Church purchased the land where the present St. Patrick’s Church stands. St. Patrick’s Church was built and formally blessed by the late Bishop Bernard Murphy, CR on the 26th October 1969.

On the 4th April 2024 St. Patrick's Parish welcomed Fr. Vivien Lugo Nuera, C.P.  Fr. Vivien hails from Bohol, Philippines. He received his Philosophy degree from the University of San Carlos, and his Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Loyola School of Theology at Ateneo de Manila University. He took his first profession of vows as a Passionist in 2007, and was ordained a priest on 4th December 2012. He has ministered throughout the Philippines, as well as briefly in Israel. Most recently, he spent his time working as part of the Formation Team at the Passionist Formation Center helping seminarians achieve their vocation. In his spare time, Fr. Vivien enjoys playing basketball, volleyball and tennis. He speaks three languages and hopes to add Portuguese to his list as well.

Deacon Matthew was born on 3rd December 1953, in Zimbabwe, Africa. He arrived in Bermuda in early 1987, to work as a Consultant Anesthesiologist and Intensive Care Specialist; he is now retired. He is married to Elizabeth and is the proud father of Katie (Deneys) and Nicola (Jon), and has three grandchildren. He was ordained as Deacon in Bermuda on 30th January 2016 at St. Theresa's Cathedral.
