St. Anthony's Parish

St. Anthony’s Church was built in response to the pastoral needs of the Portuguese Community in Warwick. The Solemn Blessing and Dedication of the present St. Anthony’s Church took place on the 8th December 1957 by Bishop Robert Dehler, C.R. The name of the church, St. Anthony, reflected the devotion of the Portuguese people to St. Anthony of Lisbon.

Rev. Mariusz Łuksza is a native of Poland and attended the University of Gdansk, Poland and the School of Theology at Seton Hall University in the USA. He studied for the priesthood at Redemptoris Mater Seminary and was ordained a diocesan priest to the Archdiocese of Newark on the 29th May 2004 in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ, USA.

Fr. Łuksza served at St. Stanislaus Kostka in Garfield, New Jersey in the USA before he was assigned to the Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda.

Fr. Mariusz was installed as Pastor of both St. Anthony's Parish in Warwick and St. Joseph's Parish in Somerset on the 21st of September 2014.

St Joseph's Parish

After St. Edward’s Church in Hamilton was closed in 1931, St. Joseph’s became and remains the oldest Catholic Church in Bermuda. The Sanctuary of the Church is completely lined with exquisite hand-carved Bermuda cedar.

Although the original structure is somewhat obscured by later additions, a plaque still adorns the wall to the right of the original entrance to the Church and acknowledges the gift of the Crawley family.

St Theresa's Cathedral Parish

In 1915 a much loved and far-sighted Pastor of St. Theresa’s Parish purchased the land on Cedar Avenue upon which the Cathedral now stands. St. Theresa’s Church was opened in 1932 and was known at the time as the “Church of the Little Flower”. This church structure was built to replace St. Edward’s Church, which was located in Hamilton and which served as the first Catholic Parish in Hamilton established in 1859. When the Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda was founded on 11th June 1967, St. Theresa’s Church became the Cathedral of the Diocese.

St. Patrick's Parish

To meet the needs of Catholics living in Devonshire and Smith’s, land was donated to build a chapel, which was blessed in February 1948 and named the Wayside Chapel. Over time it became too small for the needs of the people in the area and the parish. In 1964, the Church purchased the land where the present St. Patrick’s Church stands. St. Patrick’s Church was built and formally blessed by the late Bishop Bernard Murphy on 26th October 1969.

Fr. Wlodzimierz (Vladimir) Sobolewski, was born in Poland on the 27th October 1951. He completed his studies in Poland and was ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Resurrection on the 19th June 1976. He was an Associate Pastor in Posnan, Poland for two years before going to Australia, where he lived for twenty years serving as a Pastor in both Adelaide and Melbourne. Fr. Vladimir was installed as the Pastor of St. Michael’s Parish on the 25th June 2000. He was then transferred as Pastor to St. Patrick’s Parish on 15th August 2012.

Stella Maris Parish

The town of St. George had been a centre of Catholic worship since 1849, with services held in the barracks Chapel of the British Regiment. When the U.S. Base was established at Kindley Field, the Catholic Chaplain ministered to the Catholics of the area. However, it would take almost another hundred years before construction of a Catholic Church in St. George would begin. Stella Maris is located in the heart of historic St. George and is the smallest Catholic Church in Bermuda. On the first Sunday in February 1948, Archbishop McNally of Halifax, Nova Scotia, blessed the Church and dedicated it to the Blessed Mother under the title, Stella Maris, Star of the Sea. In the holy year of 2000, Bishop Robert J. Kurtz, C.R. proclaimed Stella Maris Church as the Marian Center of the Diocese.

Rev. Joseph F.H. Morley was born in Bermuda on 15th March 1959. Fr. Joseph graduated from Mt. St. Agnes Academy in 1978. He attended St. Leo’s College in Florida. On 8th December 2004 he was ordained a priest at the Cathedral of St. Theresa in Hamilton by Bishop Robert J. Kurtz, CR. Fr. Joe is the first Bermudian to be ordained a priest for this Diocese. He holds a Master of Divinity Degree from both the Toronto School of Theology and Blessed Pope John Seminary in Weston, MA., U.S.A.
